SEO Title, H1’s, and Meta Descriptions
SEO Title Tags
A title tag is an HTML element that specifies the title of a web page. Title tags are displayed on search engine results pages (SERPs) as the clickable headline for a given result, and are important for usability, SEO, and social sharing. The title tag of a web page is meant to be an accurate and concise description of a page’s content.
Your title tag is also displayed at the top of your web browser and acts as a placeholder, especially for people who have many browser tabs open. Unique and easily recognizable titles with important keywords near the front help ensure that people don’t lose track of your content.
Optimal title length
Google typically displays the first 50–60 characters of a title tag.
Avoid using All Caps
Give every page a unique title
Put important keywords first
If you have a strong, well-known brand, then adding it to your titles may help boost click-through rates.
Titles should be targeting the user, and as accurate as possible to improve click through rates.

Example: Marine T-Shirts | Grunt – Sgt. Grit
H1’s
Search engines use the headings to index the structure and content of your web pages.
Users skim your pages by its headings. It is important to use headings to show the document structure.
headings should be used for main headings, followed by
headings
Do not use Heading tags for style.
Primary keyword goes as close to the beginning as possible, but still feels natural when reading.
H1 tags are the main title of your page and should be descriptive.
Keyword up at the front, followed by naturally flowing title that describes the page
Example: Marine Corp T shirts for the ABC Division.
Meta Descriptions
Think Less about SEO & More about Click-Throughs. The meta description tag in HTML is the 12-160 character snippet used to summarize a web page’s content. Search engines use these snippets in search results to let visitors know what a page is about before they click on it.
Meta descriptions are a brief and accurate summary of the page. Meta Descriptions appear in the search engine underneath the clickable link/title. These should be as accurate and enticing as possible to boost click through rates. Not having a meta description is just as bad as having a bad one that doesn’t tell the client about the page they are clicking on.
